Vascular Center

Christ Hospital's Doctors On Video - Vascular Center

Vascular Center

The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Center continues to have the highest vascular volumes in the region, which translates to the most experienced surgeons available for your treatment needs.

A unique feature of the vascular center is the multi-displinary vascular team, consisting of interventional radiologists, vascular surgeons and cardiologists, all working together to review and analyze the quality of vascular cases. These physicians have also trained 282 new vascular physicians through preceptorships in these specialties.

The Vascular Center continues to be a national leader in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy vs. Stenting Trial (CREST). CREST is a randomized clinical trial comparing two methods of treating carotid artery blockage and preventing strokes: a minimally invasive procedure called carotid artery stenting, and the “traditional” surgical procedure, carotid endarterectomy. Our carotid surgical and stent results continue to be among the best in the U.S.

In addition to these procedures, the following other treatments are available:
  • Screenings for detection of vascular disease (Detailed information below)
  • Plaque exision (removal) for critical limb ishemia
  • Peripheral vascular treatments
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) stent grafting
  • Carotid stenting
Find out if you're at risk for vascular disease with these quick easy screenings for $100

The Christ Hospital has partnered with Midwest Ultrasound and Kroger Pharmacy to provide vascular screenings. Receive all three screening tests for $100. Call 513-936-5291 to schedule your appointment, or for more information. No Prescription Needed.

Should I get checked? Risk factors for vascular disease include:
  • Are you over 60 years
  • Family history of stroke or heart / vascular disease
  • Smoking History
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Heart disease
  • Muscle pain in the legs when walking exercising

We test for:
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)
AAA is a bulging & weakening of the aorta, a large artery which supplies blood to the abdomen, pelvis and legs.
Carotid Artery Stenosis (Stroke Risk)
Build-up of a fatty substance called “plaque” can partially or completely block the arteries that supply blood to your brain, causing stroke.
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
Arterial blockage from plaque can also develop in the arteries of the legs resulting
in reduced blood flow. This can affect the ability to walk and, could result in a risk of amputation.

How are the screenings done?
AAA and Carotid Artery Screening
The Vascular Sonographer applies apply a small amount of clear gel to your abdomen and/or neck. An ultrasound transducer is moved painlessly over the area.
PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease) Screen
The Vascular Sonographer will use blood pressure cuffs and a special Doppler ultrasound transducer to measure the pressures in each arm, and in the arteries of both ankles.
